Abstract

Background: Bridging theory-practice gap is one of the most important issues in training nurses in Iran health care system. This study explores nursing professionals’ perception about Challenges to implementing regulation of clinical-residents for nursing faculty members in Iran

Methods: Qualitative content analysis approach was employed after actual and virtual group discussion. A purposive sample of nurses in different positions in academic and hospitals setting (faculty members, managers, Ph.D candidates and instructors) were participated in the study. The data were analyzed using content analysis method.

Results: The challenges can be categorized into the following areas: Repression of motivation, Lack of structural and physical status in the hospital, Role confusion, Damage to unity of command and managerial conflict between faculty and hospitals, confusing in collaborate with college in teaching theoretical courses and supervising theses, Increased burden of liability, Damage to the integrity of internship and clinical affairs, Mixing tasks, Feeling of discrimination.

Conclusions: The interactions of individual and organizational factors were identified as challenges to implementation of regulation of clinical-residents for nursing faculty members. Prioritizing the challenges and and using the proposed strategies may be helpful.
